LOUISE BLANKET - DUCK GREEN/BURGUNDY

Designed by Cristina Celestino

The Louise Merino wool blanket is part of a collection of accessories crafted in collaboration with Italian designer Cristina Celestino.

Within interior design, the wool blanket has two uses: they are ornamental, but also practical. Our Louise Merino wool blanket will add a touch of sophistication to your living room when placed on a sofa, or to your bedroom if used as a throw blanket.

DESIGNER

CRISTINA CELESTINO

For the permanent collection Intérieur aux aubergines, Maison Matisse was inspired by Henri Matisse's eponymous painting from 1911 and collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino.

This choice seemed self-evident. The designer’s world is perfectly adapted to that of the artist’s painting in this particularly decorative canvas where the planes deeply superimpose each other.

Cristina Celestino was born in Pordenone in 1980. After graduating from the Università Iuav in Venice (Higher Institute of Architecture of Venice), in 2005 she began to work with several prestigious firms and focused her attention on interior architecture and design. In 2010 she moved to Milan, where she founded her brand, Attico Design.

As an architect-designer, Cristina Celestino designs projects both for private clients and for companies such as Fendi/Fendi Casa, Fornace Brioni and CC-Tapis, as well as providing creative direction, interiors, and fixtures for Sergio

Cristina Celestino has won numerous international awards, including the Special Jury Prize "Salone del Mobile Milano Award" in 2016 and the ELLE DECO International Design Awards in the Wallcovering category in 2017 with Plumage for Botteganove and in 2019 with Giardino delle Delizie for Fornace Brioni.

In September 2022, Cristina Celestino was elected "designer of the year" by Maison & Objet, which devoted an entire space to her during its September edition, around a project called "Exotic Palace".

Cristina Celestino has imagined for Maison Matisse a collection inspired by Henri Matisse's painting Intérieur aux eggplants (1911), composed of several seats (sofas, armchairs), coffee tables, folding screens, household linen, wallpapers and decorative objects.

MAINTENANCE ADVICE

Maison Matisse recommends professional cleaning should a visual stain appear. The Merino wool blanket does not require any particular care: at the end of winter, we recommend leaving it outdoors for a night to air out before leaving it in a cupboard in its original pouch until next season.

INSPIRATION

The color palette found on Henri Matisse's Intérieur aux Aubergines (1911) was the unifying idea for the Louise wool blankets designed by Cristina Celestino. To design the wool blankets, Cristina Celestino took certain graphic elements found at the heart of Henri Matisse's work, for example the frame or the stitching. The Merino wool blanket is framed by flat patches of color that are superimposed onto one another to create a playful chromatic contrast while staying faithful to the tones used by the artist Henri Matisse. The edge is embellished with the characteristic festoon stitch in contrasting colors.

ARTS AND MATERIALS

QUALITY

The wool blanket is reversible as it has been woven on a jacquard loom. This burgundy Merino wool blanket has been woven in one of the most innovative production facilities, a leader in Italian design that blends tradition with savoir-faire.

Our collection only contains high quality blankets made from exceptional materials with a unique feel: Merino wool. Known for its soft and fine texture, it requires a natural and very simple care.

The extra-fine Merino wool is highly resistant and can be kept for a long time. This material gives the Louise wool blanket a longer lifespan. Paying tribute to Matisse's work, the pieces in the collection draw their inspiration from the Intérieur aux Aubergines painting (1911) and aim to be appreciated in the long term: they are cherished, keep for a long time and can be passed down from generation to generation in order to avoid waste and overconsumption.
