Maison-matisse Fenêtre Duo Vase
FENÊTRE DUO VASE
The Duo Vase was created by the French design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Henri Matisse's birth.
It draws its inspiration from a major theme in the painter's work: the open window.
Like Henri Matisse's paintings, each element in Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec's pieces is an attempt to get closer to nature.
The overall ensemble is composed of three elements associated in a combination of shapes and materials, allowing for different arrangements of the vases.

INSPIRATION
The Fenêtre Duo vase was born from the collaboration between Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and Maison Matisse on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Henri Matisse’s birth.
This ensemble of shapes and materials wishes to translate one of the pictorial themes most represented in the painter's work: a window open to the outside. The result is unique and vibrant: the eye perceives an interior scene in the foreground before plunging through the open window into an azure blue sky that changes with the light.
ARt
UNIQUE HANDCRAFTED PIECES
The ensemble includes two stoneware vases cast and demolded by hand, whose color gradients have been obtained through many successive series of glazes.
The vases are placed on a terracotta ledge made in an old French tile factory from chamotte clay, giving it a raw look. An invisible matte enamel has been applied to the ledge to protect it from stains.
Finally, the anodized aluminum background cut with a water jet reveals several shades of blue and azure. Similar to film photography, the metal plate was dipped in six different baths by the design duo directly at the factory. The goal was to achieve a color palette that was as close as possible to the color of the sky.
The Duo vase is the culmination of nearly five years of research by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, whose goal was to achieve a handcrafted look with an industrial process.
