Casalis Raja Carpet
RAJA CARPET
RAJA CARPET
Designed by Liset van der Scheer & Marie Mees
Purely traditional and disarmingly straightforward.
It is no coincidence that the name Raja - which is Sanskrit for ‘king’ - was chosen for this strong, hand-knotted rug.
After all, the Raja, made from the wool of sheep in the Himalayas, testifies to a royal authenticity and a complete mastery of the craft.
That is why everything is done by hand: from shearing the sheep to carding the wool, from dyeing the fibers, and spinning the yarn to the ultimate knotting of the carpet.
The result is a rug with an unbeatable charm that is never plain in colour because of the many natural hues. Made of 100% Tibetan wool. Can be used as wall to wall carpet.
DESIGNER
MARIE MEES
Marie Mees designs home collections for several brands in Belgium and abroad. Her interior textiles are carefully designed to complement contemporary architecture and interior design. Her fabrics are never farfetched or eye-catching, even though Marie Mees is a trendsetter in the world of textiles. The search for comfortable materials and beautiful textures is a never-ending source of inspiration.
LISET VAN DER SCHEER
After graduating from the Design Academy in Eindhoven she has been working as an independent industrial textile designer and colour expert. 'The importance of designing to me lies in marketing a product that adds to the identity that the consumer wishes to convey at a particular moment in time. In my designs, the challenge lies in applying traditional materials in an innovative way, or in applying new materials to an existing production process. I always try to stretch the bounds of possibility. Looking at colour has become my second nature, and in building designs, be it textiles or carpets, the starting point is always the expression of the yarn'.
