Colourful pop culture meets handmade design traditions in the collaboration between Kähler and the design duo KIMPOP, comprising the colourful personalities Sofie Linde and Joakim Ingversen.
For a number of years now, the pair have been exploring the world of ceramics with great passion. Their knowledge of glazes, firing and ceramic craftsmanship is combined with their love of pop and popular culture, based on the late 80s and early 90s of their childhood.
The result? The Poppery collection is just as colourful as Sofie and Joakim.KIMPOP wants to challenge the Danes’ use of colours in their homes, break with the traditional Scandinavian colour schemes and invite us to take more colourful chances with our interior design.
The new collection from Kähler X KIMPOP includes a bold mix of pastels in yellow, pink and mint, opulent glazes, fun details, and shapes that want to stand out from the crowd. The collection’s smallest mug with pink, mint and yellow details holds 27 cl and is perfect for a good, strong cup of coffee.
DESIGNERs
KIMPOP
In the design duo KIMPOP lies a love for ceramics, for authenticity, for artistry, for history, for the quirky, for the poppy, and for the rebellious.
KIMPOP features the colorful personalities Sofie Linde and Joakim Ingversen, and with the new Poppery series, they have, in close creative collaboration with Kähler, designed two mugs, three vases - one with a stopper - and a small whimsical figure you didn't know you needed.
Although Sofie Linde and Joakim Ingversen, under the pseudonym KIMPOP, are now making their debut as designers in the public eye with the Kähler series Poppery, their passion for ceramics is far from new.
Alongside their work as hosts on a variety of entertainment programs, the duo has, for many years, explored the world of ceramics and created ceramic art in their own ceramics workshop in their shared villa north of Copenhagen, where each individually and together has delved into challenging the so-called Nordic design. A work, perhaps almost a ceramic mission, which KIMPOP got even more space to cultivate in the beginning of 2024.
As design and ceramics have become an increasingly significant part of KIMPOP's creative vein, and in line with their great fascination with how Kähler has been pioneering aesthetically and has contributed to shaping the way we decorate our homes, the path was indeed paved for a design collaboration in a professional collab between the couple and Kähler.
The Kähler X KIMPOP series Poppery is thus a natural extension of Kähler's art ceramic narrative and KIMPOP's aesthetics, humor, and design understanding, shaped by the colorful pop culture of the late 80s and early 90s and the design duo's own experiences with glazes, firing, and the ceramic craft. A collaboration that KIMPOP and Kähler are very proud of.
"For KIMPOP, it is really important to create something that is also exciting and relevant in 20 years. And with Poppery, we represent precisely the time we live in now, but the series also has its very own identity and expression that points forward in time.
Just as we know it from Kähler. And although the Poppery series is clearly influenced by a colorful pop culture, it equally reflects the great fascination of two creative souls for how Kähler has been pioneering aesthetically and has contributed to shaping the way we decorate our homes," says Joakim Ingversen, with Sofie Linde adding:
"We are incredibly happy with the result of our very first real design collection under the name of KIMPOP. And we are so proud that the Poppery collection from the inside out reflects a deep respect for Kähler's renowned design collective and the many artists who over time have been given free rein by Kähler to express themselves and create in their own name, thus contributing to renewing Kähler's art ceramic narrative and the culture we live in. That it is now in 2024 suddenly our turn. Yes, there is just so much sweet pop music in our ears in that insanely good way," concludes Sofie Linde.

POPPERY
Kähler X Kimpop – Colourful Pop Culture Meets Handmade Design Traditions
Interesting things are created when opposite elements meet. For example, what happens when ceramics meet MTV? When design language meets breakdance? When a ceramic glaze meets pop culture? With great respect for Kähler’s artisan heritage, the design duo KIMPOP has explored the field between classic ceramics and their personal aesthetic design references, inspired by the late 80s and early 90s.
The Kähler X KIMPOP collection is called Poppery and comes straight from the heart. It's a natural extension of KIMPOP’s aesthetics, humour and design understanding – and their own experiences with glazes, firing and ceramic craftsmanship. It is anything but neutral and understated Nordic design. On the contrary, there are many colours, and this is quite deliberate.
KIMPOP wants to challenge the Danes’ use of colours in their interior design, steering away from anything too conformist and boring towards something more lively and playful. They want to break with the traditional Scandinavian colour traditions and invite us to take more chances in our interior design choices.
The new collection from Kähler X KIMPOP includes a confident mix of pastels in yellow, pink and mint, opulent glazes, humorous details, and shapes that want to stand out from the crowd. The Poppery collection includes three vases in three different sizes.
The largest of the vases is 32 cm high and features a unique apple-shaped, mint-coloured stopper with a small pink worm as a quirky detail. Because why should a vase stand there looking boring just because there are no flowers in it?
The series also consists of two mugs – one small and one large – as well as a unique figurine depicting a pastel yellow apple with a gorgeous mint-coloured worm on top. The figurine is a great example of KIMPOP’s humorous approach to design: an original and fun part of the Poppery collection that's sure to make you smile.
With their eye-catching design, the vases all serve as statement pieces and will immediately add a colourful and playful element to your interior design, as well as a boost of joie de vivre – without the need to paint your floors, walls and kitchen doors pink, even though you are very welcome to do so! All the vases are hand-painted with a glaze, creating a playful feeling with a flowing surface.
The middle vase is 20.5 cm while the small vase is 12 cm high. Whatever the size. With or without a stopper. With or without flowers. Hopefully, this collection of Poppery vases will inspire you to try something new in your interior design and open you up to a creative and colourful universe.
This is also the case with the mugs in the series, which are just calling out to be used for coffee and tea. With equal focus on visual expression and functionality, both pieces are created based on an authentic Kähler design from the archives, with a beautifully prominent ring all the way around the cup that gives the hand a natural place to grip and rest.
The design invites you to sit with your cup and enjoy its form, your drink and the world around you. The low cup in the series’ brightly coloured pastel hues holds 27 cl and is perfect for a good, strong cup of coffee, while the slightly taller 36 cl cup is ideal for drinking milky coffee or a big, invigorating cup of tea.
Kähler X KIMPOP lets contrasts meet. The experimental pastel tones are echoed throughout all the pieces in the Poppery collection, but are expressed in different ways. Yellow and pink are the dominant colours on some pieces, while mint is more prominent on others.
The entire collection is characterised by the encounter between figurative and abstract, as well as by the vibrant glazes that flow delightfully together and often make their own way down the surface – and sometimes end up running completely wild, which helps to reinforce the authentic hand-painted look.
For KIMPOP, it was important to create something that would still be exciting and relevant in 20 years’ time. Something that represents the time we live in now, but also has an identity and look of its own. Just as we'd expect from Kähler.
Although the Poppery series is clearly influenced by colourful pop culture, it equally reflects the two creative souls' great fascination with Kähler's groundbreaking impact on aesthetics, and how this has helped to shape the way we decorate our homes.
Therefore, the Poppery collection also shows the deepest respect for Kähler’s renowned design collective and the many artists who, over time, have been given a free rein by Kähler to express themselves and design under their own name, to help renew Kähler’s art-ceramic narrative and the culture we live in.
