The Shiwa vase collection, created in collaboration with ceramic artist Yuki Nara, includes various models in different shapes and sizes, inspired by nature and its transformations.
The vases are made using high-quality artisanal ceramic processes that highlight the artist’s hand and expertise.
The vases are crafted from white clay using the slip-casting technique, an ancient ceramic process that makes it possible to create objects by pouring liquid clay into a plaster mold. As the mold absorbs the water, the clay settles on the walls until it reaches the desired thickness.
After being skillfully smoothed by the expert hands of artisans, the vase is ready for glazing, which is carried out through a traditional airbrush process.
The contemporary-design Shiwa vase collection includes standard finishes as well as an annual limited-edition collector’s piece.

YUKI NARA
Yuki Nara (Kanazawa, 1989) is a Japanese ceramic artist and architect, heir to the renowned Ohi dynasty, celebrated for crafting Ohi-yaki ceramics since the Edo period (1603-1868).
Holding a degree in Architecture from Tokyo University of the Arts, Nara has developed a distinctive vision that blends artisanal tradition with technological innovation.
His works explore the boundaries between ceramics and architecture, digital and analog, with a focus on fostering a dialogue between humanity and nature.
Nara has showcased his creations in prestigious international venues and collaborated with renowned brands such as Chaumet and Audemars Piguet, as well as leading galleries and institutions, cementing his place in the contemporary art landscape.

CONCEPT AND DESIGN
The collaboration between Poltrona Frau and Japanese ceramic artist Yuki Nara, which began with the limited edition “Yuki Nara meets Poltrona Frau,” continues with “Shiwa,” a collection of ceramic vases inspired by nature and its transformations. A meeting of two worlds—art and design—translated into objects destined to endure over time.
Shiwa is a Japanese term that refers both to the fine lines that mark the surface of skin, paper, or fabrics, and to the ripples that form on the surface of water. A light and constant movement observed in nature, which the artist has recreated in her vases, conceived as a poetic variation on the theme of matter that continuously transforms and renews itself.
Organic forms with soft lines that seem shaped by time, marked by gentle folds that create a rhythm, as if moved by the wind. Shiwa is a project that combines formal research and cultural depth, an exemplary fusion of Eastern aesthetics and Italian savoir-faire.
