Finnish design legend Kaj Franck was inspired by his travels in Greece when he created Morning in Athens.
The stunning sculpture is made up of three delicate glass pendants.
The wind chimes make a soft, melodic sound reminiscent of Franck’s cherished memory of ringing church bells on a Sunday morning in Athens.
The 3 pc art glass object hangs beautifully in a window, by a fireplace or any favourite spot, catching the light.
In production until 1994, Iittala relaunched the striking sculpture to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Franck’s birth.

Kaj Franck (1911-1989) is known as the “conscience of Finnish design.”
Franck grew up in a world with elaborate dining services to sparse stone dishes.
During his significant career, Franck asserted himself between the two extremes and profoundly changed our understanding of tableware.
He utilized serial production to produce versatile, practical dishware at a reasonable price. Besides social consciousness, Franck’s distinct career was guided by the desire to seek the essential.
He studied basic forms endlessly with special focus on proportions. Franck has designed a range of tableware products for Iittala with his Teema Collection, Kartio Collection and Scandia Collection.

Morning in Athens
Kaj Franck created Ateenan Aamu (Finnish for “morning in Athens”) after being inspired by the beauty of Greece and wanting to find a way to bring a piece of it back home with him. The sculpture is made of glass pendants and when moved by the wind, the delicate bubbles make a soft, melodic sound reminiscent of church bells ringing in Athens on a Sunday morning. In 2011, Iittala relaunched Ateenan Aamu in honor of Franck’s 100th birthday.
